In a private clinic in Berlin, the chief physician Fritz von Weizsäcker, son of the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker, was stabbed to death during a lecture. According to a police spokeswoman, he was suddenly attacked by a man on Tuesday night. About 20 spectators came to the lecture. A man from the auditorium – it should have been a policeman who was there privately – was said to have intervened and himself seriously injured. The 59-year-old from Weizsäcker died on the spot. The suspect was arrested.
Several people from the audience helped loudly police to detain the perpetrator and hand over to the police. A homicide commission investigated. Experts investigated the crime scene. The incident occurred at around 6.50 pm in the private Schlosspark Clinic near the Charlottenburg Palace.
Fritz von Weizsäcker has been head of the Department of Internal Medicine I at the Schlosspark Clinic since 2005, after having worked in Freiburg, Boston and Zurich. The news of his death was also received in the social networks with much sadness.
From Weizsäcker’s father Richard von Weizsäcker was from 1981 to 1984 Governing Mayor of Berlin and from 1984 to 1994 Federal President of the Federal Republic. He died on January 31, 2015.
